Yes there is a way called rich text box, but on publish over web and try to fill the form there is a icon on the text box which user need to click(confused?)and a crazy pop up comes up and we need to click OK then the text box got enabled, which is totally not user friendly, and we will be getting lots of service tickets.
and if we use the text box it trim the text up to 255 characters only.
In some blog it states, create text box in infopath and change the single line of text to multiple line of text in SharePoint over web, which yes it will fulfill your requirement, but here is the scary part , if you will get any updates or changes in infopath and after making changes in the infopath and try to publish it , you will get the error hat field has some issue please revert back the changes you made on last publishing and try again. and you are stuck. If you try to revert from multiple line of text to single line of text then you will lost the data after 255 characters.
So what we do finally?
Here is the solution: very easy.
Create 2 fields in infopath , one is single line of text(ex: DescriptionSource) and other is rich text box(Description) and set the default value of rich text box to single line text box(DescriptionSource).
display only single line of text with multi line feature enabled to the user and Now when you submit the form, it fill set the value into rich text box and in your view in SharePoint over web you will get the whole data.
Recommended: on publish the form just select the 'Description' field, no need to add 'DescriptionSource' field into the content type.
Happy sharepointing...have a nyc day...:p
